Mixed Martial Arts (MMA for short) is a independant, and relatively modern form of full-contact-tournament. The root of the soprt is the prancratium in the Greece of the first olympic games. MMA became popular with the help of the comparison-fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) of the earlx 90s, where techniques from different martial arts came into action. The fighters use blows and kicks from boxing, kickboxing as well as the Muay Thai, ground-combat techniques from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Hwal Moo Hapkido, wrestling and Judo. Techniques from other martial arts can also be used. The fact, that blows and sometimes kicks are allowed in ground-combat, is the main difference to other full-contact-sports.

The Hwal Moo MMA emerged from the martial arts Hapkido, Thaiboxing, Taekwondo, Luta Livre und Shootfighting. Some Hwal Moo Do masters have reached high master-degrees in other martial arts besides their degrees in Hapkido and Kumdo, and have a successful tournament-career available. The good exchange between the masters on seminars and meetings lead to the creation of the Hwal Moo MMA
